Sailing Lessons – Fees
Minnows – 18 students per class
- Fee: $130 per child
- Ages: Pre K and Kindergarten
- Schedule: Friday mornings from 9:00 – 10:00am (Pre K), or from 10:15 – 11:15 am (K).
- Description: A great introduction for our youngest sailors. Minnows are introduced to the fun of sailing in a comfortable engaging environment learning about basic boat safety and having a good time on a boat.
JY I & II Sailing Lessons – 17 students per class
- Fee: $285 per child
- JYI - Ages and schedule: Grades 1 – 2, on Monday & Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 11:30am
- JY II- Ages and schedule: Grades 3 – 4, on Tuesday & Thursday morning from 9:00 – 11:30am
- Prerequisite: Swim Test
- This class will be an introduction to the basics of sailing and make sailing lessons an enjoyable experience for the students. Students will learn some of the following basic skills: How to Rig a boat, find the wind direction, how to adjust the sails for the different points of sail and how to steer, tack and gybe a sailboat.
JY III Sailing Lessons – 15 students per class
- Fee: $285 per child
- Ages: Grades 5 – 6
- Schedule: Monday and Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 – 3:00pm
- Prerequisite: Swim Test
- Description: Sailors will build upon the skills learned in JY II. Sailors will learn more advanced skills and be able to do the following without the help of Instructors: Get a boat rigged, sail to the Red buoy and back, sail around a triangle, return to the club, un-rig the boat and put the boat away.
JY IV Sailing Lessons – 15 students per class
- Fee: $285 per child
- Ages: Grades 7 – 12
- Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:30 – 3:00
- Prerequisite: Swim Test
- Sailors will build upon the JY III skills. This class is a mix of an introduction to racing around a race course and destination sailing. Students will learn advanced skills and be able to do the following without an instructor: Rig a boat, sail out to the race course, start a race, finish the race and sail back to the club and put their boat away.
Opti I
- Fee: $250 with own Opti, or $325 with a club owned Opti and they might have to split time.
- Ages: Grades 3 – 4
- Schedule: Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:00 – 11:30
- Prerequisite: Swim Test
- This class is designed for beginners who want to learn to sail an Opti in a fun, safe and controlled environment. Sailors will learn how to rig their Opti, knots, tacking, gybing, wind direction, capsize recovery and sail trim. Sailors will gain the confidence to sail a boat by themselves.
Opti II
- Fee: $250 with own Opti, or $335 with a club owned Opti and they might have to split time.
- Ages: Grades 5 – 8
- Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 – 11:30
- Prerequisite: Swim Test, Opti I, JYII or instructor recomendation
- For intermediate sailors who want to build upon the skills learned in Opti I and be introduced to racing. Racing is an exciting dimension to sailing which will build the sailors self confidence, increase social ability and confidence in boat handling.
Opti Racing Team
- Fee: $375 and sailor must have your own Opti.
- Ages: Ages 9 – 15.
- Schedule: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:30 – 3:00pm.
- Prerequisite: Swim Test, Opti II or instructor recommendation
- This class is designed for Opti sailors who are ready to race. Sailors will be taught performance boat handling and rigging skills, racing tactics and rules. This will prepare them to compete against other sailors in the GSBYRA during Jr. Regattas every Friday. Our racing team will attend as many Jr. Regattas as possible and we invite your child in the racing class to join the excitement. We will also compete in PGJSA events if the schedule allows us to.
420 I – Limit 14 students
- Fee: $350 club boat
- Fee: $275 with own boat
- Ages: Grades 5 – 7
- Schedule: Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9 – 11:30
- Prerequisite: Swim Test, Opti II, JY III or instructor recommendation
- This class is for the sailor who has some previous sailing experience and knows the basic boat handling skills. The sailor will improve their skills on a fun and exciting boat. Sailors will learn how to rig a 420, tie knots, tack, and gybe, wind direction, capsize recovery and sail trim. Sailors will gain the confidence, learn to sail with a partner and develop sportsmanship.
420 II – Limit 14 students
- Fee: $360
- Fee: $275 with own boat
- Ages: Grades 7 – 12
- Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 – 11:30
- Prerequisite: Swim Test, 420 I, Opti racing, JY III or instructor recommendation
- For sailors who want to improve upon the foundation built from the 420 I class. They will be introduced to racing and advanced boat handling skills.
420 Racing Class
- Fee: $410 with club boat
- Fee: $310 with your own boat
- Ages :10 – 18
- Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 – 3:00pm.
- Prerequisite: Swim Test, 420 II, Opti racing or instructor recommendation
- This class is designed for the sailor that wants to take sailing past the recreation level and learn to race. Sailors will be taught performance boat handling and rigging skills, racing tactics and rules. This will prepare them to compete against other sailors in the GSBYRA during Jr. Regattas every Friday. Our racing team will attend as many Jr. Regattas as possible and we invite your child in the racing class to join the excitement. We will also compete in PGJSA events if the schedule allows us to.
Sunfish Lessons – Will be added to schedule if there is a request.
Recreational Fun Sailing
- Fee: $165
- Ages: 11 – 18
- Schedule: Tuesday Afternoons from 3 – 5pm.
- Prerequisite: Swim Test, JY III, or comparable class
- This will be a fun and relaxing afternoon sailing to the beach, up and down the bay or to a specific destination. Your child should be able to rig and sail a JY 15 with help from instructors.
Adult Lessons – $200
- Come on down, learn to sail and enjoy some beautiful evenings as we unwind on the bay from your busy day.
- Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. If we have a foul weather night we will try to makeup the class the following Thursday evening.
